The money I’ve been raising has not been sat idle in some bank account. It’s already being put to amazing use on the ground in Kenya. This year alone, 953 pregnant women in Narok have joined Team Mum pregnancy support groups, helping boost attendance at antenatal appointments by 17%. In one facility, hospital deliveries rose by 63%, meaning more women are giving birth with skilled support - a transformational step towards reducing life-threatening complications. And your donations are now helping Child.org to start working in Garissa County too, by training community health workers, and providing free critical care, such as ultrasounds, to women who need it most.

Get ready to follow an incredible adventure with a heart! We are thrilled to announce Pedal Powered Stories, a sponsored bike ride undertaken by Spencer Barnshaw, aiming to push physical limits while raising vital funds for a cause close to our hearts.

This isn't just a cycle ride; it's a journey of resilience, storytelling, and community spirit. We invite you to be a part of it every step of the way.

The Challenge

Spencer will be embarking on a demanding long-distance cycling route, tackling changing terrain, weather, and fatigue—all in the name of charity. This challenge represents months of preparation and a deep personal commitment to making a difference.

More Than Miles: The Pedal Powered Stories Blog

Why is it called Pedal Powered Stories? Because this journey is about more than just the destination. Along the way, Spencer will be chronicling the entire experience on the dedicated Pedal Powered Stories Blog.

Follow along for:

  • Training Diaries: The ups and downs of preparing for a major physical challenge.
  • Route Previews: A look at the stunning and demanding landscapes ahead.
  • Live Updates: Real-time stories from the road during the ride itself.
  • Photos & Reflections: Capturing the moments of struggle, triumph, and the people met along the way.

Your Support Makes All the Difference

While Spencer provides the pedal power, we need you to provide the people power! The goal of this endeavour is to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charity, Ride Africa: Mara Calling November 2025. Every single donation, no matter the size, will provide crucial support and make a tangible impact.

How You Can Help:

  1. DONATE: The most direct way to help is by making a secure online donation via our official JustGiving page. It only takes a minute, and your contribution will fuel the ride and the cause.
  2. SHARE: Help us spread the word! Share the links to this article, the donation page, and the blog on your social media channels, in community groups, and with friends and family. Awareness is just as valuable as a financial contribution.
  3. FOLLOW & ENGAGE: Become part of the support crew from afar! Follow the blog, leave comments of encouragement, and help keep Spencer's spirits high when the miles get tough. Your virtual cheers will be a powerful motivator.

Why We're Doing This

"All funds raised will go directly to Child.org, an organisation dedicated to make pregnancies and births safer by providing life-saving health information, connecting communities with services, and advocating for quality care. Their work focuses on supporting Sustainable Development Goals related to good health and gender equality, primarily by empowering communities in Sub-Saharan Africa to address preventable deaths during pregnancy and the early days of a child's life.

This challenge is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together as a community. It’s about using passion and determination to create positive change.
